It has been a very busy summer with our walking tours and Welsh guided tours in Denbighshire.
Welsh learners and fluent speakers had the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, discover our local history and nature, and socialise in a friendly atmosphere. The walks were a great way to practice Welsh language skills and meet new people.
During July, a group of learners went on a guided walk led by Anne Ellis along the Llangollen History Trail on a glorious summer’s day. The trail had special views of the area. Walkers were given an opportunity to wander around the abbey at Glyn y Groes and marvel at the grandeur of the historical building. We then continued along the journey walking along the beautiful Llangollen canal back towards the town.

The learners in August walked to the top of Caer Drewyn under the expert guidance of Medwyn Williams. The enthusiastic group learned new vocabulary with the help of the ‘Say it in Cymraeg’ leaflet The task for the learners in August was to walk to the top of Caer Drewyn and all under the guidance of the experienced guide Medwyn Williams. The enthusiastic group learned new vocabulary with the help of the Roman Fort Remains ‘Say it in Cymraeg’ leaflet and listened attentively to the guide’s extensive knowledge. It was also great to chat with a team of volunteers and staff from Bryniau Dyffryn Clwyd who were rebuilding a stone wall on site. Although the weather wasn’t as pleasant as it had been, everyone enjoyed themselves and had a welcoming cup of tea at Caffi Treferwyn at the end of the walk. Many thanks to South Denbighshire Community Partnership for their support.
A guided walking tour was held in the town of Denbigh for new speakers where they were given the opportunity to learn more about the town’s rich history and explore the castle walls. On that particular afternoon, there was a buzz in the town as Chris Flamebaster Roberts was cooking on the square for a new TV series. It was a very exciting day and learners had some new Welsh experiences.
There were a few trips during the summer along the coastal area with support for the Llais Prestatyn committee and their volunteers. A group went for a walking tour around Coed y Morfa under the expert guidance of Alwena and walked along the banks of the Nova to the Talacre viewpoint during June. There was a historic trip led by the experienced guide, Medwyn Williams, during the summer holidays from Trelawnyd to the top of the neolithic mound Y Gop.
It was great to be able to continue working together over the summer months with the team at Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Landscape and Menter Iaith Fflint a Wrecsam to host guided tours in Loggerheads and Minera.
Thank you once again to the leaders and we look forward to the Autumn walks..
