Were you lucky enough to visit the historic Dolbelydr site during its Open Doors weekend on the 20 and 21 of September? Did you see the wooden beams, the lime walls, the glass windows, the open slate roof and the two chimneys?

These are the features that were recreated by children from Ysgol Cefn Meiriadog, Ysgol Gymraeg Henllan and Ysgol Bro Aled during a series of Lego workshops in partnership with Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych at Dolbelydr near Henllan. On Friday 19 September and on the morning of Monday 22 September, Dolbelydr was bursting with creativity and imagination as Henry Salesbury’s 16th-century home was turned into Lego models.

Our gratitude goes to the Landmark Trust for offering the site to the next generation as the children were given the opportunity to walk around the location and learn more about its history and how people lived in 1578. Dolbelydr is now a holiday cottage, and although there have been some modern developments to make the experience comfortable, the original features are still visible. The children had great fun working in groups, building and recreating what they had learned during their visit. At the end of their session, they were given the opportunity of picking a piece of fruit from the orchard – a well-deserved reward for their efforts!
