As Wales look forward to another Welsh Charities Week, 9 to 13 February, Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych is taking the opportunity to flag up another busy week promoting the Welsh language throughout the county.
Among the activities Menter Iaith, a charity itself, is working on during the week:
- Paned a Sgwrs, a cuppa and chat for learners and new Welsh speakers in Nantglyn
- support and discussions with Gŵyl Rhuthun (Ruthin Festival) officials
- support and discussions with Denbigh Museum and Denbigh Open Doors
- A guided tour in Llangollen for Welsh learners
- final preparations for the ‘Lleuwen’ music gig at Gwesty Owain Glyndŵr, Corwen
- Lego workshop at Hwb Pengwern and Llangollen Library
- St David’s Day Window Decoration arrangements with the county’s businesses
- arrangements to celebrate the Dewi Sant parade for schools in the Denbigh catchment area
“The work we do, as a charity, is varied, and people often forget that Menter Iaith itself is a registered charity,” explains Ruth Williams, Chief Officer of Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych.
“We are very proud that we have received the NCVO Trusted Charity standard mark, which is a registered mark for charities across the UK. As a small team of staff we are very dependent on volunteers so ensuring that we maintain high standard in our work as a charity is vital.
Chair of Menter Iaith’s Board of trustees , Bethan Cartwright said: “We are grateful to our main funders and partners for entrusting us to carry out these tasks of offering opportunities for the residents of Denbighshire to enjoy living their lives through the medium of Welsh. And we would not be able to fulfil that role without our hardworking staff and the volunteers who collaborate with us as Board members, contributors and supporters at events. We are immensely grateful.”
“The whole team ensures we achieve and on Welsh charities week, it is a credit to the small team of staff for leading us to achieve so much in offering Welsh language opportunities for children, young people and adults to use the language in their communities.”

During 2024-2025 Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych held over 50 events for young people and had contact with over 2000 adults. The work of the charity during the period saw them reach almost 1400 children and over 100 events were organised for adults during the year.
Ruth Williams added: “We have received financial funding for a new project which expands the provision we have promoting the Welsh language in the coastal areas of Rhyl, Prestatyn and Rhuddlan.
“We have now settled in Y Farchnad Fenyn, our offices in the centre of Denbigh, which is a great location in modern surroundings with twenty-first century resources. Our work within the communities of Denbighshire, promoting the Welsh language, supporting organisations, arranging events and doing our utmost to improve the opportunities throughout the county to use the Welsh language continues. If you are interested in volunteering with us or supporting us in any other way, please do get in touch.”
