With the summer holidays upon us, we had the opportunity to work with with Ysgol y Llys, Prestatyn and Ysgol Cefn Meiriadog during their ‘Bwyd a Hwyl’ (food and fun) sessions. It was a great opportunity for us to offer a variety of activities over a three-week period, covering some of the themes of the Menter Iaith project.
We had a Magi Ann story and song session, and a Lego treasure box workshop focusing on some of the castles of our area. We are fortunate to be able to share some of our local county’s heritage with children and babies which brings their local communities alive to them during our sessions.
One of our sessions followed an agricultural theme which gave us the opportunity to look back and use a lovely resource that we have, our museum memory project ‘Amgueddfa Atgofion’ which includes the board game ‘The Year of the Sheep Farmer.’ We were also able to create masks and badges, something that always proves a hit with the youngsters.

Since healthy eating is an important element of the ‘Bwyd a Hwyl’ sessions, the popular characters Seren a Sbarc also visited us at Ysgol y Llys, where they received a very warm welcome whilst playing and educating the children.
The final session concluded with a visit from theatre company ‘Mewn Cymeriad’ and their one-man show portraying Thomas Telford as he builds Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Llangollen Canal. These are two important heritage features within Denbighshire. It was great to see the children responding well, interacting with the team and each other through the medium of Welsh, plus enjoying all the resources and activities that had been arranged for them.
