Two young ‘Little Police’ constables from Ysgol Pendref supported the officers this year. The three pupils had the opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at the work of the police in Denbigh.

It was lovely to see the town’s residents and businesses out on the streets supporting and enjoying the celebrations as children, staff, stewards and volunteers walked to the accompaniment of Welsh music.

Despite the rain, Crown Square was bustling and the 15 schools that attended the event received a warm welcome from the radio presenter, Owain Llŷr.

According to Ruth Williams, Chief Officer at Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych, “We are very proud to celebrate St David’s Day once again through the streets of Denbigh this year and it is lovely to see all the children enjoying themselves.”

It notes that St David’s Day is one of the highlights of our calendar year, and we are proud to give young people the opportunity to connect with their heritage, language, and culture.

Ruth added that she is delighted to welcome pupils and staff from Tremeirchion, Bro Cinmeirch, Cefn Meiriadog, Pendref, Ysgol y Parc, Pant Pastynog, Henllan, Frongoch, Twm o’r Nant, Plas Brondyffryn, Trefnant, Ysgol Glan Clwyd, Santes Ffraid, Coleg Myddelton, and Denbigh High School to us this year.

We are grateful to all the pupils and school staff for organising and attending. In addition to working with Denbigh Town Council, we received support from the staff of the Cynefin Group, Urdd, Parents for Welsh Medium Education and several volunteers. And without the support of our local police, the event would not have been possible. Thanks must also go to Lidl and the Co-op for their support.

At the end of the event, flowers were presented on behalf of the crowd to the representative of the Town Council, Councillor Ruth Griffiths, by Alys, Lottie and Layla, three girls who had taken part in the parade for the first time with a group of child carers.

For photos of the event and further information about the services of Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych, visit the Facebook, Twitter or Instagram page or go to the website. If you are interested in volunteering within your community or supporting the work of the Menter financially, contact Ruth Williams on 01745 812822 or ruth@misirddinbych.cymru

St David’s Day Window Competition

Over the past few weeks, businesses and town shops across the county have been competing enthusiastically in our St David’s Day Window Competition. It was very nice to see the county’s windows decorated to celebrate our patron saint’s national day.

Many thanks to the Town Councils for supporting the competition and for judging, and it was a very difficult task to choose the winners.

These are this year townd’s winners.
