Dinbych came to a halt for a few hours today, Tuesday 1 March, as over 300 youngsters marched up Vale Street to the amazing sound of Welsh music to celebrate St.David’s Day celebrations.
The event, which was arranged by a partnership between Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych, Grŵp Cynefin, Denbigh Town Council and the Urdd with support from North Wales Police and Denbighshire County Council, brought primary school children from Denbigh and the surrounding area’s schools together to celebrate Wales’ national patron saint.

Band Cambria led the way from Lidl car park, up Vale Street with the towns folk and businesses gathering safely on the pavements to enjoy the celebrations, put on hold for two years due to the pandemic.
Ruth Williams, Menter Iaith Sir Ddinbych said: “We have been absolutely delighted to see the youngsters coming out to some normality today to mark Dydd Gwyl Ddewi in glorious sunshine. Seeing so many happy faces in and around the town is very positive.

“Marking Dydd Gŵyl Ddewi is one of the pinacle’s of our calendar year, and bringing the event back to Dinbych, after a break due to the pandemic has been a challenge in such a short space of time, since the Welsh Government restrictions were lifted just a month ago. The whole team and partners have been astounded at the support we have received from everyone involved. Diolch Dinbych!”
Shan Lloyd Williams, Grŵp Cynefin Chief Executive said: “Grŵp Cynefin is delighted that this St David’s Day parade can begin again, and seeing everyone taking part is wonderful.

“With one of our main offices in the centre of Denbigh and our Awel y Dyffryn extra care scheme for older people recently opened in the town too, many customers, partners, and staff are located in the Denbigh area. It is important to us, as a company, to be part of a joyous event like this and we are proud to work with the local community.”
Councillor Rhys Thomas, Mayor of Denbigh said: “Today’s St David’s Day procession in the town has been a resounding success, and we are grateful to all the youngsters for bringing joy and colour to Denbigh. Thank you to Band Cambria and all the partners who contributed to the day’s success.”
