Mentrau Iaith Cymru the national organisation which supports the network of Mentrau Iaith (Welsh language initiatives across Wales) are today launching summer campaign, #joia that asks people, of all ages and all abilities in Welsh, to declare their Welshness in a fun and engaging way. The campaign’s aim is to encourage more people to use their Welsh as a part of their daily lives, by simply enjoying what the language has to offer.

We feel that it’s about time that we celebrated our Welshness and our language. We hope that the campaign – alongside other successful campaigns such as the #pethaubychain campaign will ignite a greater interest in the Welsh language and show that the Welsh speaking community is vibrant and thriving.

To take part, all we ask is that people take photographs of themselves holding the “#joia” hashtag boards and upload and share these images amongst their friends and family on Facebook and Twitter using the #joia hashtag.

Adam Jones, Marketing and Communications Officer, Mentrau Iaith Cymru said:

“This campaign provides a great opportunity for individuals to celebrate our language and encourage their family, friends and others to do the same. It’s vitally important that we have the confidence to declare that we, Welsh speakers, be it learners or fluent, enjoy living our lives through the medium of Welsh – the Welsh language isn’t a label in itself but a living mechanism that enriches people’s lives in so many ways.”

The official launch of the #joia campaign will be held during the Urdd National Eisteddfod in Caerphilly at 11:15 am at our Mentrau Iaith Cymru and Menter Caerffili stall (units 60-62) during a children’s jamboree with Heini.
